Selectboard present were Doug Pastula, Michael K. Walsh, Marvin Withers and Marion Sevigny. Also present was Merton Leonard, and visitors, Barb and Gary Fontaine and Ken Linsley, and reporter Sally Anderson Cook. Michael K. Walsh moved to accept the minutes as written, Marion Sevigny seconded the motion, the minutes of the May 1st meeting were approved as written. Ken Linsley was present to pass on a letter that the Chamber of Commerce received from the City of Danville California, celebrating its 150th anniversary in July with the thought that maybe the Selectboard would like to respond to it. After some discussion Michael K. Walsh moved to have Merton draft a congratulatory letter to the Town of Danville CA from the Selectboard and the Chamber of Commerce as well, Doug Pastula seconded the motion that was approved. Kevin reported that the springtime road maintenance work is continuing with the grader being able to run daily trying to get the roads back into shape, they even had to use a little chloride in some areas, but will be trying to use less this year. They still have culvert replacement going on with a couple larger replacements planned, and they were able to get the streets swept around town where needed. Merton reported that the meeting with the foresters and VTrans was held here in Danville rather than Montpelier so to be able to view the area, Michael and Doug were able to make it also. The meeting was overshadowed at the end by Ken Robie’s statement that we would have to cut more money from the project as we had not met our required amount of cost reductions. Again there was no price figure to meet, Merton called Ken Robie on Monday and requested a firm figure of additional reductions before we could move forward on the project, and the answer was he would call as soon as he had it. Merton has changed the speed ordinance as request, as everyone concurred he will warn it for the next available meeting. Bert Frye and Marty Larrabee will be removing the bath house on Joes Pond Beach next week. They offered to remove the septic tanks as well for $550.00 as some discussion had favored their removal. After some discussion Doug Pastula moved to allow Bert Frye and Marty Larrabee to remove the septic tanks at Joes Pond beach, including pumping them first and then filling and grading the area after removed for a total price of $550.00, Michael K Walsh seconded the motion which was approved with the stipulation that Merton check with other contractors to determine that it could not be done cheaper. The motion was approved. Merton also reported that: the ancient road committee held an organizational meeting that was well attended with about a dozen people there and several others that had expressed interest. Kurt Zschau was chosen Chairman and Wayne Russell Vice Chair, and Toby Balivet clerk; that he has found that the burning violation tickets had to be obtained from the court itself and that everyone approved to issue them had to be registered with them; there is approximately 4600 sq ft of roofing on the fire station and that would have a scrap price of $265.00, new steel roofing going up by about 10% by June 1st; Jane Kitchel and Kitty Toll will be using the Green on June 23rd for a kick off to their campaigns to the state legislature. The Board approved a sewer connection for Martha and Robert Kitchel on Walden Hill Road provided it was approved by Leslie Parker the Waste Water Plant Operator, on a motion by Michael K. Walsh that was seconded by Doug Pastula. A request for the placement of the local churches bible school sign on the Green was approved by a motion of Doug Pastula that was seconded by Michael K Walsh. The Board reviewed the budget and sign the orders. With no further business, the Board adjourned at 7:10pm. Respectfully Submitted, Merton Leonard Clerk of the Selectboard |
